Perception on the Presidential Survey Comment

This is crap. I cannot judge because it isn't part of my job to evaluate the president. I have neither the resources, data, or frankly the interest. The majority of the things listed on your groundbreaking survey are not directly associated with the job of the president, but rather to some other individual. The president has an evaluation process with the BOG. Please get a life, develop some innovative teaching strategies, improve student learning and stop the administrator in training Dilbert routine you are so wedded to. Seriously, get help. Do you hope to export this innovative form of meddlesome governance to the larger university community? Are you people going to present this at a conference? What circumstances allow you the time to engage in this? Are you going to take this to Division I because it is so exemplary? Shame on you all. PS you could be improving your course instead of reading this.

III. Course and Program Component Review

A. Review of syllabi, outcomes, delivery of on-line courses, course rigor, on-line best practices

B. Revise field and clinical experiences to parallel changes being made in undergraduate program

C. Clearly define distinctions between undergraduate and graduate courses in the M.A.T. and M.Ed. programs. COURSE NUMBERS? How can you have UG courses in Grad programs??

D. Limit on-line programs to north central West Virginia; cap course enrollment; Geographically limit student enrollment to facilitate stronger field and clinical components

NOT LOOKING THE STUDENTS ONLINE IS NOT THAT DIFFERENT THAN NOT LOOKING AT THEM F2F

USE SOME OF THE GOLDEN EGGS TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO CLINICAL SUPERVISION, DON’T KILL THE GOOSE THAT IS LAYING THEM.

IV. Faculty Work Load Issues It only affects 2 people and they or admin are the only ones who should vote on issues that impacts faculty wallets.

A. Limit class size for graduate courses WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS? YOU CANNOT NO YOU DON’T KILL THE GOOSE. THIS KILLS THE DRAFT ON LOAD BELOW.

B. Limit faculty workload to allow for more faculty scholarship (3/3) NO, YOU DON’T HAVE THE RESOURCES, WHAT SCHOLARSHIP?

C. Hire more graduate faculty to meet teaching needs; divide teaching loads equitably; reverse the trend of using adjuncts/overloads. WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS? YOU CANNOT HIRE ANYONE ELSE!

Note: Under any circumstances (not including contractual courses releases) a faculty member would be expected to teach at least 18 combined credit hours in the fall/spring semesters.

Note: There will have to be some restriction related to section enrollment. A low enrollment course (e.g. less than 12) would not count as a “graduate” course” for load purposes.
